SAVE THE OAK RIDGES MORAINE
The role played by the citizen based Save the Oak Ridges Moraine (STORM) Coalition in 1989 in bringing popular attention to the plight of the moraine was significant. Since that time the coalition has rallied as necessary to provide information, expertise and moral support to 'hot spots' where planning decisions were impacting on the intent of the Oak Ridges Moraine Conservation Plan.
The informal coalition has established the Monitoring the Moraine project which includes ecological data collection through citizen science activities and voluntary policy monitoring undertaken by interested citizens.
STORM has organized and hosted gatherings of interested parties to identify science needs, review information and encourage deeper action in protection efforts across the moraine.
Along with other organizations STORM continues to collect and draw attention to the requirement for defensible data, in preparation for the 2015 review of the effectiveness of the Oak Ridges Moraine Conservation Plan. Find out more about the Save the Oak Ridges Moraine Coalition.
